Behind The Song with Rodney Griffin

Behind The Song with Rodney Griffin

Welcome to the first week of our special mini series highlighting MTQ’s newest radio single, “Run To The Door.” In the next few weeks, we’re going to look at different aspects of how this song found a home on our latest project Still Standing and what it means to us musically and lyrically, so be sure to come back next week for another post!

We’re starting off with the inspiration behind the song from writer, Rodney Griffin. Without songwriters, there would be no songs to record and oftentimes, a song takes on a deeper meaning when you hear what was stirring in the heart of the songwriter when they wrote it. Below, Rodney Griffin shares what that moment when he sat down to pen the words to “Run To The Door.”

“In Paul David Tripp’s devotional, “New Morning Mercies” I read the phrase, “Run to Him”. A couple of days later, the devotional read, “The doorway to freedom is submission”. I remembered that Jesus had said, “I am the Door” in John 10:9. I knew there was a song there. Jesus is the only hope of escaping eternal fire and judgment. I wanted to encourage everyone…just as if they were in a burning house, to Run To The Door!” – Rodney Griffin

And we are glad for that message and lyric! Thank you, Rodney, for sharing that with us! Stop back next week as we dive deeper into what it means for Jesus to be the door.
